September the 11th saw even more mental goings on in the fuel tax debate!. Several Farmers and Haulage drivers decided to blockade fuel refineries and stores. Spontaneously this caused many other drivers to do the same.
This in turn lead to concerns over the delivery of fuel around the country, and as usual the media successfully hyped the average motorists up. This lead to the majority of motorist filling their tanks just in case it ran out. This had the knock on effect that other motorists that would have carried on as normally feeling they had to fill up before everyone else had all the fuel!.
The queues grew all over the country. The scene above was seen all over the place. Those that needed unleaded soon found they could no longer fill their cars, and in many areas the fuel dried up all together.
Hair Blair decided he better get back off his little trip up north to tell everyone he wasn't going to be blackmailed.
As we
know things carried on for several days until the general decision was
to let Hair Blair off for sixty days. This gives him time to bring
the tax down during the budget. The concern now is that if he does,
it will merely affect farmers and Haulage firms and not benefit the motorist.
It could even increase tax on our fuel!
Stay
tuned... I don't think the battle is over yet!
